Urban Meyer: “I Was Trying To Score 69 Points”
COLUMBUS, OH – Saying it was not at all his intention to run up the score Saturday against the Rattlers of Florida A&M, Urban Meyer clarified that he was actually shooting for 69 points.
“The goal was certainly not to score as many points as possible,” said Meyer. “The goal was to score 69 points hahahahahaha.”
Meyer backed up this claim with evidence from his play calling. “I put Cardale back in as soon as we had 69, because I didn’t think we could score without Kenny G,” explained the head coach. “Then our only punt came on 4th and 2, when we had 69 points.” Meyer continued on, “We even went for two on our second score thinking we wouldn’t get it so we wouldn’t have to kick any field goals to get to 69. I think it was pretty clear that I wanted to score 69 points. Unfortunately, we went past that goal.”
Asked why 69, specifically 69 points, was the goal, Meyer giggled for several moments before whispering into the mic, “69,” and then laughing silently for several more seconds.
