Cal Really Hoping Braxton Miller Plays
BERKELEY, CA – Perhaps in an attempt to alleviate any doubts on Cal’s side arising from the mystery surrounding Ohio State’s starting quarterback for Saturday’s game, Golden Bears coach Sonny Dykes clarified late Friday evening that he actually wanted Braxton Miller to play.
“We’ve got a lot of footage of Miller,” said Dykes. “We know what we have to do to shut him down. Looking at game tape of some of his losses has been very helpful.”
Dykes indicated that this surplus of information — and lack of Guiton footage — was the reason he hoped to see Miller on the field. “We have less than two games of Guiton film. And he won both,” said a clearly worried Dykes. “I know it’s a small sample size, but from those tapes, we have no reason to believe that Guiton isn’t both unbeatable and indestructible.”
Even Guiton’s weaknesses seemed to concern Dykes. “He throws an interception with less than two minutes to go in a game where he’s down by eight. Then he just wins it. I don’t know,” said Dykes, one hand grasping his temples. “He has never not won. He will beat us. I have no doubt about that.”
Asked what would change in his preparations and game plan should his team be forced to face Kenny Guiton, Dykes looked down, shook his head several times, and then just didn’t answer.
